Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has stated he is not surprised at Champions League results leading to the elimination of leading clubs.
Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain both exited the competition this week after shock home defeats following first-leg victories away from home.
“I am not surprised by these results, there is quality throughout the competition and a lot of teams have grown significantly,” Simeone – whose side face Juventus next week in the second leg – told reporters.
“Maybe people who do not watch a lot of football are surprised by these scorelines but those of us who watch a lot of football know the pitfalls of what each match poses.
“We are not in the same situation as Juventus because they have a very large gap at the top of their league while we have to give our all in every league game.
“We have to keep competing at our usual level and we must give everything if we are to get a favorable result.”
Simeone’s Atleti travel to Turin this week, leading 2-0 from the first leg.
