Diego Simeone has praised the impact of Alvaro Morata at Atletico Madrid but insists he is not in competition with Diego Costa.
Morata joined Atleti from Chelsea in an 18-month loan deal and opened his scoring for the club in Sunday’s 2-0 win over Villarreal, having had strikes disallowed against Real Madrid and Juventus.
“We are very happy to have both, I do not like to analyse the differences between them or compare the two,” Simeone told reporters, as cited by Marca.
“Both players add their own qualities to the squad, we know they each have a lot of quality and are very important to us.
“Morata has made an instant impact here, two legal goals were scored which were disallowed but should not have been – those were poorly interpreted.
“When you have strikers such as Costa and Morata then your opponents should be in constant fear of what damage they can do.
“Morata has had bad lucky but he has kept working and we are very for him, he has kept plugging away and shows a good attitude.
“I am very proud of my players in general and the season we are having.”
