Messi: We played as ourselves against Sevilla

Barcelona captain Lionel Messi claimed they are returning to their high standards following their 4-2 win away at Sevilla on Saturday afternoon.

Messi was in inspirational form at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, netting the 50th hat trick of his club career, but he preferred to focus on his teammates after the game.

"Today we played as ourselves again. We played well and the goals came when we needed them to.

"It is always hard to win here and we knew that we would have to rediscover our form. We did that and performed very well and got the result", he told El Chringuito TV in his post match interview.

Barcelona had won just one of their last five games in all competitions ahead of their victory in Andalusia and Messi acknowledged they have struggled in recent weeks.

"We cannot always play our best football, and we have been on a streak where we have not played well."

The result means Barcelona are now 10 points in front of Atletico Madrid at the top of the La Liga table, however the Argentina international is not taking any chances as they look to defend their league title.

"There are a lot of games left to play, but today was an important win to put distance between ourselves and our rivals.

"We play Real Madrid on Wednesday in the Copa and that will be a hard game, particularly as it is in Madrid, but we want to win.

"We want to win everything, that game is important and we want to win and then focus on the league."
