Ernesto Valverde agrees Barcelona contract extension

Barcelona Coach Ernesto Valverde has signed a new contract to keep him at the Camp Nou until 2020 with a further one-year option, it has been confirmed.

Appointed in the summer of 2017, Valverde’s previous contract at the club was due to expire at the end of the current campaign, generating speculation surrounding his future.

The 55-year-old – who has previously managed at Espanyol, Villarreal, Olympiakos and Athletic Bilbao – led the Blaugrana to the domestic double in his first season at the club.

Speculation over his future began with a Champions League quarter-final exit to Roma last season, but only lost one league tie all season – a defeat at Levante after the league title had been secured.

Valverde is set to speak to the press later on Friday surrounding the renewal.
