Lazio-Sevilla clashes ‘like a war’

There were clashes between rival groups of Ultras in Rome on Wednesday night ahead of Lazio’s clash against Sevilla in the Europa League.

Marca, via La Gazzetta dello Sport, say four people were stabbed in the brawl which had up to 40 participants with three being taken to hospital.

Two of the three people who ended up in hospital were Spanish while the other was an American, according to the reports.

The two Spaniards would have been rescued from a restaurant, where they had sought refuge, while the American was found outside.

Marca cite Il Messaggero journalist Michele Galvani as describing the scene as “like a war.”

Investigations are now under way to determine what happened and identify the perpetrators responsible.

Lazio and Sevilla kick off the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie at the Olimpico on Thursday.
