Barcelona ‘firm interest’ in Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic

Barcelona do not have an agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt forward Luka Jovic – currently the Bundesliga top scorer – but do hold a strong interest, say reports.

On Monday, Marca cited a report in Frankfurter Allgemeine that the Blaugrana and the player have ‘laid the foundations for a deal’ although stressed there was no agreement yet with the German club.

There are now follow-up reports in both El Mundo Deportivo and ESPN FC verifying the news of the Blaugrana’s interest, as they seek a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez.

The Bosnian-born striker has 14 goals in 15 league appearances this season, more than anyone else in the division, while he has also netted five goals in the Europa League this campaign.

The 21-year-old joined Frankfurt from Benfica in 2017 having begun his career at Serbian giants Crvena Zvezda and is now said to be being monitored by the Catalan giants.

Now a full Serbian international, Jovic is also said to be gaining attention from both Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
