Barcelona ease into Copa semi final with 6-1 win over Sevilla

Two goals from Philippe Coutinho helped seal a 6-1 win for Barcelona against Sevilla, as they brushed Pablo Machin's team to one side in the Copa del Rey quarter final.

Trailing 2-0 on aggregate from the first leg at the the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, the hosts began in determined form, with Coutinho giving them the lead on 13 minutes from the penalty spot, after Lionel Messi was fouled.

Messi handed over spot kick duties to Coutinho, with the Brazilian international currently out of form, and the former Liverpool man duly converted.

The penalty was shrouded in controversy over how much contact Quincy Promes made with Messi, however the home side were not hanging around to debate his decision, as Ivan Rakitic put them 2-0 in front, shortly after Ever Banega had missed a penalty for the hosts.

Two goals in quick succession from Coutinho and Sergi Roberto had looked to have put the game beyond Sevilla, but a stunning second half goal from Guillherme Arana hauled the away side back into it – with the aggregate score at 4-3 to Barcelona.

However a goal each in the final two minutes for Messi and Luis Suarez, secured a 6-3 aggregate win for Ernesto Valverde's side and a ninth consecutive appearance in the Copa del Rey semi finals.

The Catalans are joined by Valencia, Real Betis and the winner of tonight's quarter final second leg between Girona and Real Madrid, with Santiago Solari's side leading 4-2 from the first leg.
