Maurizio Sarri: “Eden Hazard free to leave Chelsea”

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has admitted Eden Hazard, a reported long-standing target for Real Madrid, is free to leave the club if he wants to.

The playmaker recently said he ‘did not want any regrets’ on his career in the latest of a long-running line of hints that he would be open to a move to Madrid.

He has also commented that whilst he wished to leave Stamford Bridge last summer following on from the World Cup, he was no longer committed to any certain move.

“Eden is 28. If he wants to go, I think he has to go,” Sarri told reporters.

“Of course, I hope the opposite, I hope he wants to stay here.

“He has the potential to be the best player in Europe at the moment.”

Madrid are likely to redouble their efforts in the close season, in order to have Hazard in place ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
