Celta Vigo give reprisal to under-fire Miguel Cardoso

Celta Vigo president Carlos Mourino has handed a reprieve to under-fire Coach Miguel Cardoso but ‘can’t make promises beyond our next game’.

The Galician side have slipped into the relegation zone in La Liga after five straight defeats, following Sunday’s 2-1 loss at Real Valladolid.

The Portuguese boss was only appointed at the Galician club in November to replace the sacked Antonio Mohamed.

“We cannot deny this is a precarious time for the club, so it is natural we are worried,” Mourino told a press conference, in quotes cited by Marca.

“We play Sevilla next and I cannot guarantee that if we lose that game, the Coach will still be in his position following on from that.

“Football is a game with a lot of flux and the situation can change very quickly, we do not want to make any future predictions, all that matters is there here and now.

“We have full confidence in the Coach, we have been in situations like this before and we will emerge from this stronger.”

Reports in Spain have linked former Malaga boss Michel and Fran Escriba, most recently at Villarreal, to being Cardoso’s successor in Vigo.
