Luis Enrique: Real Madrid’s Isco needs to play more

Spain boss Luis Enrique admits Real Madrid playmaker Isco must be playing regularly to force himself into contention to be selected for the national team.

The 26-year-old has only started one match across La Liga and the Champions League under new Madrid boss Santiago Solari and is limited mainly to starts in the Copa del Rey.

“Due to the current situation, I do not know,” Enrique responded during an interview with Movistar, when quizzed about calling up Isco to the squad.

“We treat each player as their own individual case, but it is two months until we choose a squad again, but it is natural I will move towards players who play more often.

“Alvaro Morata? If his loan deal (to Atletico Madrid) is finalised, then we will analyse the situation but Atleti already have a number of strong attacking players.”

The Spain international has a long-term deal at the Bernabeu until 2022 with a minimum release clause of €700m but has recently found himself ostracized from first-team football.
