Real Madrid will not pursue a deal for Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen this summer according to media reports in Spain.
The La Liga heavyweights have been linked with a bid for the Danish playmaker for the past 12 months, however they are now withdrawing from a possible transfer, due to Tottenham's unwillingness to sell.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, who is a notoriously difficult negotiator, stated earlier this month that it could take a bid of €250 million to prize him away from Wembley Stadium in this transfer window.
Real Madrid were hoping to do a deal in the region of €84 million, with Eriksen already into the final year of his contract in North London, however Levy is not budging on the issue.
The door is not fully closed on a future move for Eriksen, with his contracting expiring in 2020, Real Madrid could sign him on a free transfer – after he made clear he would not be renewing his deal at Tottenham, due to their wage structure.
However they would face competition to sign him on a free transfer, with Premier League sides Manchester United and Chelsea also keen, as well as Bayern Munich and Juventus.
