Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin ruptures cruciate ligament, out for the season

Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin’s season is over and he could miss up to nine months of action after scans confirmed he has ruptured his cruciate knee ligament.

The Spanish defender was stretchered off in the 72nd minute of the Gunners 2-0 victory over Chelsea on Saturday and will now miss between six and nine months of first-team football.

It continues a spell of bad luck for the full-back, with the injury coming in his first start for five weeks after picking up a calf injury against Southampton in December.

The 23-year-old has won three international caps for Spain but now must look at a long-term recovery from his latest setback.
