Barcelona linked with swoop for Cedric Bakambu

Barcelona are interested in a move for former Villarreal striker Cedric Bakambu, according to media reports in Spain.

Ernesto Valverde's side have been linked with a host of goal scorers from across Europe, as they look to improve their attacking options for the second half of the La Liga season, and the Congolese international is the latest name on their radar.

Bakambu signed for Chinese Super League side Beijing Sinobo Guoan in February 2018, after they activated his release clause of €40 million, with the Yellow Submarine.

He has scored 23 goals in 29 appearances in China, however it is his record of 32 La Liga goals in 75 games that has attracted the attention of Los Blaugranas in the January transfer window.

Bakambu's speed and physical presence make him an ideal signing for Barcelona, as an alternate for Luis Suarez, however the primary stumbling block to any potential deal is the unwillingness of his current club to sell their prized asset – with an initial attempt already reported to have been rebuffed.

Barcelona's best hope of securing a transfer appears to be capitalising on Bakambu's reported difficulties in settling in China in the past 12 months.
