Real Madrid move up to third with Sevilla win

Goals from Casemiro and Luka Modric ensured Real Madrid leapfrogged Sevilla in the race for a top four spot in La Liga, with Santiago Solari's side securing a vital 2-0 win over the Andalusians.

The result sees Los Blancos move up to third in La Liga, ahead of Sevilla, for the first time since the end of September, as Real Madrid look to push their case for Champions League qualification.

Brazilian international Casemiro opened his La Liga goal scoring account with a wonder strike on 78 minutes, which the calmed the nerves of an agitated home crowd, as Sevilla looked to settle for a point in the capital.

Modric sealed all three points for the home side in the 90th minute, slotting past Thomas Vaclik, after being sent clear of the Sevilla defence.

The result moved Real to within seven points of league leaders Barcelona, who play tonight against Leganes, and three ahead of Sevilla, who slip to fourth.
