Santiago Solari: ‘Real Madrid need Karim Benzema back’

Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari confessed his side are reliant upon the return of forward Karim Benzema for their league game against Sevilla.

The French forward missed out on Wednesday’s Copa del Rey defeat against Leganes with Solari admitting he did not have a replacement for him within his squad.

“We suffered tonight because we did not have a reference point in attack,” Solari responded to reporters when asked over the absence of Benzema, who suffered a hand injury in last weekend’s win at Real Betis.

“We missed that and our squad does not have an alternative, so we are relying on Benzema to be back for our game with Sevilla and give us that with his presence, it is very important.

“This was not a good match for us at all, but we are through to the quarter-finals and all the players who needed first-team football got that.

“I never believed the tie was in any danger for us.”
