Atletico Madrid want Alvaro Morata, Sevilla ‘concede defeat’

Atletico Madrid have emerged as the ‘most likely destination’ for Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata this month, report Diario AS.

The report claims the Spain international wants a move to Los Rojiblancos but there are ‘several difficulties’ in the deal, while Sevilla have seemingly given up hope in the chase.

Morata joined the Blues from Real Madrid in a €65m deal last summer but has struggled for form for the majority of his time in the English capital.

“Morata wanted to come here, but when the talk moved to money we realised it was impossible,” Sevilla’s Director of Football Joaquin Caparros said.

“We are happy with who we have and especially the addition of Munir El Haddadi (from Barcelona).”

Atleti are on the brink of their salary limit and would need to sell players before investing, with forwards Nikola Kalinic and Gelson Martins said to be particularly vulnerable.

Furthermore, any deal for Morata would need to be a temporary arrangement and whilst the player wants to come, there are ‘many obstacles’ to overcome.
