Barcelona keen on Tottenham’s Fernando Llorente

Barcelona have identified striker Fernando Llorente as a January transfer window target following the exit of Munir El Haddadi, claim El Mundo Deportivo.

Munir joined Sevilla in a €1m deal earlier this month while the frontman has also been linked to Athletic Bilbao, who El Correo say have launched a ‘full offensive’ for the player.

The Basque giants are working on a series of possible transfer targets while both Coach Gaizka Garitano and sporting director Rafa Alkorta are fans of the Spurs striker.

However, Catalan media now claim that Barca are prioritising adding a short-term striker to add depth to their squad in case of injury to Luis Suarez.

The 33-year-old netted 118 goals between 2004 and 2012 at San Mames but has only 27 minutes across 20 Premier League games this season.

New Athletic president Aitor Elizegi has said Garitano deserves to work with a ‘reinforced squad in full’ and has given his approval to the pursuit of a new striker.

Athletic have already confirmed the return of playmaker Ibai Gomez from Alaves while they are also said to hold an interest in former players Javi Martinez and Ander Herrera.

Llorente will be out-of-contract in the summer, so he is free to begin negotiating a free transfer on this month and he netted an FA Cup hat-trick against Tranmere Rovers earlier this month.
