La Liga have confirmed matches across Spain’s second tier will be broadcast live on their YouTube channel in a new contractual deal.
Friday night’s Andalusian derby between Cadiz and Granada has been confirmed as the first match to be played on the online video playing website.
The matches will be broadcast live with English commentary in more than 150 countries in what is described as ‘major markets’ across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
“The way we consume live sports is being changed by a new generation of online broadcasters, and we are committed to using such channels to extend the appeal of our competitions,” said Melcior Soler, director of the league’s audiovisual department, is cited as saying by Associated Press.
All 11 games per weekend will be broadcast, alongside a weekly 50-minute highlights programme.
