Real Betis have completed the signing of teenage Mexican international Diego Lainez from Club America, the club have confirmed.

The 18-year-old is described as a versatile attacking midfielder who is most comfortable playing on the left-side of an attack.

Despite his age, Lainez had already wracked up 50 first-team appearances for his club side having debuted aged just 16.

Betis director of football Lorenzo Serra Ferrer was in Mexico on Wednesday in an attempt to speed up negotiations, with the deal officially completed on Thursday.

The player made his international debut with Mexico in September 2018 and had been linked with a move to Dutch giants Ajax.

However, Los Verdiblancos have now completed the signing on a five-and-a-half-year deal with the national team captain Andres Guardado said to be key in the negotiation process.
