Santiago Solari refused to answer why Isco did not start in the Copa del Rey tie with Leganes but did confess: “Well, we played a very good game.”
It appears to be the latest comment to signal a fractious relationship between the pair, which has seen the playmaker start just once of Madrid’s last 10 matches despite being fully fit.
“Well, today we played a very good game,” Solari answered directly when asked why Isco did not start in the 3-0 victory.
“There are 24 players to select from and only 11 can start, my duty is to pick these players and it is not always the most thankful job.
“Will Isco play against Real Betis? I will not give you the weekend line-up and I myself do not know yet, as there are still many days left before then.
“We can play 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2, but it is more difficult because Karim Benzema is our only striker, it is not always easy for a Coach!
“Keylor Navas? He is training very well, he is happy – he will still be important for us in the future.
“The low attendance? Real Madrid have hundreds of millions of fans around the world, not everyone can make it to the stadium – we always appreciate the fans support.”
