Luka Modric: “You cannot blame Santiago Solari, only Real Madrid players”

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has moved to defend Coach Santiago Solari by stating: “as players we can only look at our own roles and responsibilities.”

The Argentine boss has come under-fire for a series of below-par performances but Modric insists it is the players who are to blame, following Sunday’s 2-0 home defeat against Real Sociedad.

“You cannot blame the Coach, he is doing a fantastic job and he is not the one failing to score goals or keep them out at the other end,” Modric told reporters, as cited by Diario AS.

“He is keeping us motivating, he has belief in us but we have to repay that more and maintain our concentration, because we are messing up too often.

“We have created lots of goalscoring chances but not been able to convert them, as players we can only look at our own roles and responsibilities.

“It is a really painful defeat but until we had a player sent-off I was convinced we would equalise and from then who knows.

“This is a difficult moment but we have to use it to unite us and pull us together, so that we can all push in the one direction.

“The VAR technology is not something we can think about as players, maybe it is strange we have not received a penalty but that is the way football is.”
