Ernesto Valverde: Barcelona decision at the end of the season

Ernesto Valverde says Barcelona will wait until the end of the season before deciding whether to extend his contract.

Valverde’s contract with Barca is due to expire this summer and there have been murmurs that the Catalans are planning a change at the helm, although the Coach has the option of a third term.

“I have a contract with the club,” he said at a Press conference for Sunday’s Liga trip to Getafe.

“My contract is for two years with the option for a second. At the end of the season, we have to decide whether I stay on or not.

“We’ll talk about it at a later date. There’s always been good harmony between us so we’ll see how it goes, but I have a contract with the club.

“We’re already looking to next season. I have a job to do here and I’m doing it. We think Umtiti will be back training with the team in a couple of weeks.

“We’ll see how things go, but I always try to be optimistic. I see him in a good way, but we’ll wait a bit longer.

“I’ve seen Murillo look well and he’ll improve with time. Our idea was that he’d be available as soon as possible.

“We know he’s going to have to play and we wish him all the best. Getafe will be an uncomfortable team to face so we must be very focused.

“They’re a good team to start the year against, more than anything because they’ll demand a lot from us.

“We know what happened to us last season and we found it very tough.. They’re a strong team who press well, hence their position in the table. They’re a team who strive for more.”
