Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas to join Monaco 'next week'

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas will play his last match for the club against Nottingham Forest this weekend before joining Monaco, say ESPN FC.

The Spain international came on as a substitute in Wednesday’s 0-0 draw with Southampton – his 500th match in English football, before appearing to wave goodbye to fans at the end of the game.

Earlier this week, Diario Sport cited a report in L'Equipe of discussions over a two-and-a-half year deal for the midfielder, who would be reunited with former Arsenal teammate Thierry Henry.

Cadena Cope say the Frenchman is instrumental in the move while the fee is likely set at €10m, with Fabregas penning a three-and-a-half year deal.

The Spanish midfielder has started just one of the West London club’s 21 Premier League matches to date this campaign, appearing as a substitute just five times.

Fabregas has been linked with a number of clubs including Milan, Valencia and Atletico Madrid, but his next destination has appeared unclear until now.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2014 and celebrates his 32nd birthday in May.

Fabregas has won two Premier League titles, one League Cup and one FA Cup at the Blues.
