Tottenham’s Fernando Llorente return to Athletic Bilbao ‘taking shape’

Out-of-favour Tottenham forward Fernando Llorente may well return to Athletic Club Bilbao this summer with a potential move ‘taking shape’, reports Marca.

The 33-year-old netted 118 goals between 2004 and 2012 at San Mames but has only 23 minutes across 20 Premier League games this season.

The Basque striker will be out-of-contract in the summer, so he'll be free to begin negotiating a free transfer on January 1st with the fresh report stating Athletic will consider a move.

“My aim is to have an important role in a team,” Llorente – who has also been linked to Galatasaray and Olympiakos – told an interview with Cadena Ser.

“Would I want to return to Athletic? Yes I would like to return, if I had the opportunity to do so and if they want to speak to me.

“There is the option of another year on my contract here (at Tottenham) but the decision does not depend on me, it is up to the clubs to negotiate.”

Llorente spent two seasons at Juventus after leaving Athletic before representing both Sevilla and Swansea City.
