Businessman and cook Aitor Elizegi has been appointed as the new president of Athletic Club Bilbao following a vote.
The Bilbao-based Elizegi narrowly defeated Alberto Uribe-Echevarria – the accountant of former president Josu Urrutia – in the voting process on Thursday.
Elizegi promised a fresh direction and new ideas for the club but only triumphed by 85 votes in the ballot which included a record-high 41,352 participate.
Elizegi won 9,264 (47.90 percent) of the vote, while Uribe-Echevarria received 9,179 (47.46 percent); while 781 votes were blank and 116 were declared void.
