Luis Enrique: Real Madrid’s Isco needs to be playing regularly

Spain boss Luis Enrique is a ‘huge admirer’ of Isco but admits the Real Madrid playmaker must be playing regularly to force himself into the national team.

The 26-year-old has only started one match across La Liga and the Champions League under new Madrid boss Santiago Solari – last week’s harrowing 3-0 home defeat against CSKA Moscow.

“I’m a huge admirer of Isco,” Enrique said, as cited by Diario AS.

“When you look at the performances at the World Cup, nobody played better than him and he has featured in most of the six games we have had since then.

“His quality and ability is not in doubt but he needs to play regularly at club level if he is to be a regular in the national squad because of the level we have.”

The Spain international has a long-term deal at the Bernabeu until 2022 with a minimum release clause of €700m but recent reports have linked him with a move away from the European champions.
