Barcelona ‘arranged medical’ for Sao Paulo’s Rodrigo Caio

Barcelona are considering a move for Brazilian central defender Rodrigo Caio who has already reportedly undergone a medical, say reports.

Diario Sport cite a report in Brazilian outlet Lance that the player underwent medical tests in Sao Paulo, overseen by Barca club doctors.

Caio has spent the entirety of his professional career at his hometown club, making 277 first-team appearances and he has won four caps for the Brazil national team.

The defender has previously torn his anterior cruciate ligament and has suffered several fitness issues over the years, causing him to miss out on the 2018 World Cup.

Indeed, in the summer of 2015 it was reported the defender had signed with Valencia in a €12.5m deal but it was reported he failed two medicals and the deal collapsed.

The player’s representative Nick Arcuri told Globoesporte that the deal is not yet closed but hinted at Barca’s interest, while Atletico Madrid have previously been linked.

It is not clear if the Blaugrana’s interest has ended following a loan agreement with Valencia defender Jeison Murillo.
