Barcelona defender Gerard Pique to confirm FC Andorra purchase on January 3

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique will complete the purchase of FC Andorra, who play in the Spanish regional leagues, on 3 January.

Diari d'Andorra report that the central defender, through his company Kosmos, will take advantage of a new sporting law to take a controlling role in the club.

Such a move will see Kosmos take full responsibility for the club’s debt while FC Andorra’s directors look set to sanction the move later this month.

Last month, the former Spain international denied reports that he was going to purchase La Liga 123 club Reus, based in Catalonia, following media speculation.

Last November, Pique told L'Équip Magazine: “We are working on two projects, one is to buy a team, I'm sorry, I cannot say more.

“The other is to create a new football competition or use an existing competition, no, seriously, I cannot say more. very beautiful projects.”

FC Andorra currently compete in the Primera Catalana – the fifth level of Spanish football – but played in the third tier between 1980 and 1998, with a Copa del Rey fourth round appearance in 1991.
