Barcelona look to defenders Martin Skrtel, Branislav Ivanovic

Barcelona are weighing up moves for experienced defender Branislav Ivanovic and Martin Skrtel (pictured), report RAC1.

The Catalan radio station say the Blaugrana are targeting an experienced central defender, who is right-footed and possesses an EU passport, on a short-term basis and the two 34-year-old’s match this profile.

The Catalan giants are said to have acknowledged their number one defensive targets – namely Ajax’s Matthjis de Ligt – are unattainable in January, so they are looking elsewhere.

Former Chelsea defender Ivanovic, 34, could join the club on loan or on a short-term permanent deal from the Russian club, whom he joined in January 2017.

Skrtel joined Fenerbahce from Liverpool in the summer of 2016 and has made 101 appearances for the Turkish giants.

The Blaugrana are said to be on the lookout for new defenders following injuries to Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen.
