Diego Simeone delighted as Atletico Madrid ‘keep throwing punches’

Diego Simeone was delighted Atletico Madrid ‘keep digging ourselves out of trouble and throwing punches’ after their 3-2 win at Real Valladolid.

Atleti looked to have thrown away two points as Valladolid came back from 2-0 down, but Antoine Griezmann added a late winner to his assist and penalty earlier in the match.

“I’m very happy,” Simeone said after the game.

“We needed to win away from home and we’d been suffering injuries, which prevented us from rotating.

“Our players make a huge effort and now we’ll get some of them back during the winter break.

“Our explanation for the result is that our opponents played well and are tough to play away from home.

“They took the lead with two set-pieces, but the team reacted once more and we won a difficult match.

“I have no doubts about Griezmann. He knows his place in football, he’s earned it with his performances and he was decisive again.

“We had a great first half and they caused problems for us in the second, but after the 2-2 we showed strength to win a match others would’ve lost.

“Our opponents played well and they’ve been having some good games. They played with confidence and their goals gave them energy, but we keep digging ourselves out of trouble and throwing punches.”
