Juventus ‘ahead of Barcelona’ for Ajax defender Matthijs De Ligt

Barcelona are fearful that Juventus are in pole position to sign Ajax defender Matthijs De Ligt, according to Diario Sport.

The report states that the Catalan giants believe the Italian giants have told Ajax they will pay €80m for the central defender – a figure that cannot be matched by Barca.

The Blaugrana are said to be leaning towards prioritising a deal for De Ligt’s Ajax teammate Frenkie De Jong, who has been slapped with a price-tag of €75m.

The Spanish champions are not in a position to commit to two such economic deals and whilst they are not ‘giving up’ on their pursuit of the defender, they are not optimistic on a move.

Paris Saint-Germain, Inter and Roma are among the other clubs who have been linked to the 19-year-old Dutch international.
