Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde impressed by Ousmane Dembele ‘golazo’

Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde admits he could not help but be impressed by Ousmane Dembele’s ‘golazo’ against Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.

“Ousmane scored a golazo, which only players with his talent can pull off,” said Valverde after the 1-1 draw, which sent Spurs into the Champions League last 16.

“Internal issues have to be resolved internally. We’re a team, we all adhere to the same code of conduct and what we want are the conditions for a winning team.

“Having Jasper is a luxury because he’s a great goalkeeper and every time he plays he excels. Tonight was no different.

“We have two great goalkeepers and we’re delighted about that.  We need two top goalkeepers because we’re in many competitions and we have lots of games.

“Barca are a club who aspire to win everything, so we need top players. I hope he stays and that he’s happy because we’re counting on him.

“Coutinho hitting the post twice isn’t a bad thing. It’s better to put them away because the worst thing that can happen to a striker is that he doesn’t score, but he had chances.

“I wanted to put players like Miranda and Alena in complicated situations. Alena’s a player who we’re expecting big things from and who we have a lot of faith in.

“He’s used to pressing opponents and having the ball. He knows how to handle himself in the positional game and he did well against a very physical team.

“We want him to get involved in our high press. It was a good match for him.”
