Isco to captain Real Madrid in Copa del Rey

Isco will make his first start under new Real Madrid boss Santiago Solari and captain the side against Melilla on Thursday, according to Marca.

The 26-year-old has not started any of the seven matches under Solari to date and was excluded altogether from the matchday squad of last week’s Champions League trip to Roma.

Reports suggest the former Malaga player had fallen out with the Argentine boss with allegations that they had not shaken hands after a recent 3-0 loss to Eibar.

That clash in Rome followed on from the defeat at Eibar and reports have suggested the former Malaga player is displeased that former boss Julen Lopetegui has left the club.

However, Isco replaced Dani Ceballos in the closing stages of last weekend’s win at Valencia and is now set to return to the starting line-up for the Copa del Rey clash.

The Spain international has not started a match for the European champions since October’s 5-1 El Clasico defeat against Barcelona – Lopetegui’s final game in charge.

Marca’s reported Real Madrid starting XI v Melilla: Keylor Navas; Alvaro Odriozola, Jesus Vallejo, Javi Sanchez, Sergio Reguilon; Marcos Llorente, Federico Valverde, Isco; Marco Asensio, Mariano Diaz, Vinicius Junior.
