James Rodriguez ‘would like to stay at Bayern Munich’

Playmaker James Rodriguez insists he would like to stay at Bayern Munich beyond his two-year loan but may ‘need to leave because of a lack of minutes’.

The creative midfielder joined Bayern in the summer of 2017 on a two-year loan deal from Madrid but has fallen out of favour under new boss Niko Kovac.

Bayern also possess a €35m option to buy the playmaker at the end of his current spell but there have been various reports that this will not be exercised and the player will return to Los Blancos.

“It's a different situation to last year because I'm playing less,” James is cited as saying by ESPN FC.

“If I need to leave because of a lack of minutes I will but I would like to stay because I feel love from all the fans and the Bayern family.”

The 27-year-old has recently suffered an ankle ligament injury which is likely to keep him out of action for at least a month, meaning he is recovering currently in the Spanish capital.

Due to the emergence of Isco and Marco Asensio, James it is perhaps unlikely that James would find a starting spot back at the Bernabeu.

The former Porto and Monaco star spent three seasons at Los Blancos, helping them to two European titles, but started just 13 La Liga games in his final campaign.
