La Liga are filing a lawsuit against the Spanish FA for ‘blocking’ moving league games to the United States, according to Diario AS.
The Spanish league wants to play Girona’s home clash with Barcelona, scheduled for late January, in Miami’s Hard Rock stadium – instead of Girona's Estadi Montilivi (pictured) but the FA insists La Liga has ‘no authority’ over such an application.
“Javier Tebas (La Liga’s president) has taken the path of a business action but he will not receive it,” the report in AS cites a Spanish FA source as saying.
“Such regulations are firmly with us (the FA) and the powers which La Liga hold are strictly related to organising fixtures, not altering the rules of the league.
“The league fixture list represents equality and fairness, with home and away games for each side against all their rivals, this cannot change.”
FIFA and the EFA (Spanish Players Union) are among the organisations who have spoken out against La Liga’s plans for taking matches abroad.
