VIDEO: Fernando Torres saves Sagan Tosu from relegation

Fernando Torres made his first telling contribution for Sagan Tosu as his late goal saved them from direct relegation on Saturday.

Torres had scored just twice in 15 J1 League appearances for Sagan since his summer switch from Atletico Madrid, but his well-taken finish earned his side a 2-1 victory over Yokohama F Marinos.

The result leaves the Japanese outfit on 40 points, four clear of the bottom two teams with just one game remaining.

However, Sagan could still go down if Nagoya Grampus – also on 40 points but with an inferior goal difference – better their result on the final day.

That is because 16th place would lead to a relegation playoff with the side who finish third in the Japanese second tier.
