Leicester City have made a move to sign Celta Vigo midfielder Brais Mendez, who scored on his debut for Spain this week.
Cadena Cope report the Foxes have registered interest in the 21-year-old but Celta referred them to his €25m release clause at the club.
It is believed that this will not deter the 2016 Premier League champions and they will trigger the clause in January.
A versatile midfielder who can play on either flank, Mendez only made his Celta debut last season but is already a fixture in the team and earnt his first Spain call-up this month.
He debuted for La Roja and scored the winner in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Bosnia, once again strengthening his name and meaning Leicester must now hasten their attempts to sign him.
Mendez has a contract at Balaidos until 2021 but his release clause is seen as affordable by Leicester.
