Official: Manolo Jimenez out, Paco Herrera in at Las Palmas

Segunda side Las Palmas have sacked AEK Athens’ title-winning Coach Manolo Jimenez and brought back Paco Herrera to replace him.

Las Palmas President Miguel Angel Ramirez confirmed the news after his club’s 2-2 draw with Granada on Friday, which was their fourth such result in succession.

“Our objective is more ambitious than the results we’re getting right now, so we’ve made the decision to dismiss Manolo Jiménez,” said Ramirez.

“I’ve talked to Paco Herrera and he’ll land on the island this Saturday to become our new Coach.”

Herrera is no stranger to the islanders, having taken them to La Liga in 2015 before making way for Quique Setien after a poor start to the season.

Jimenez, meanwhile, finds himself on the managerial scrapheap, just six months on from guiding AEK to their first Greek title for 24 years.

Interestingly, the former Liverpool assistant also replaced the ex-Sevilla Coach at Real Zaragoza in 2013.

Despite just one win from their last eight games, Las Palmas – who were relegated from La Liga last season – sit in a Segunda playoff spot after 14 rounds played.
