Iago Aspas: ‘My idea is to retire at Celta Vigo’

Striker Iago Aspas has confirmed he envisages playing the remainder of his career at Celta Vigo and ‘the Real Madrid train has already passed’.

The Spain international has netted 63 La Liga goals since joining the Galician side in 2015 including 22 last terms and eight so far this time around.

“Yes, I am very happy with my current situation,” Aspas told Cadena Cope.

“Here I am with my family and very excited, but it does not bother me that they say otherwise outside of Vigo – I would like to retire here.

“Real Madrid? That train whistled and left the station. They would have to talk to Celta first if they were interested and then speak to me only after that.

“Antonio Mohamed’s sacking? We only found out after it happened, but the club wanted to change and we back what the club want to do, we look forward to working with the new Coach.

“Real Madrid’s complaints? We did not play a hard match, we are a not a team who kicks out or tries to injure players, that game was normal.

“Spain against Croatia? It will be a very tough game for us, because they have several of the best players in the world.”
