Santiago Solari says ‘the club have to do their best for Real Madrid and that’s it’ after ending his spell as caretaker with a 4-2 victory over Celta Vigo.
Solari has helped steady the ship at Madrid with four wins in four matches, leading many to back him as Julen Lopetegui’s successor until at least the end of the season.
“The club have to do their best for Real Madrid and that’s it. The rest doesn’t matter,” the Coach said after the game.
“The credit for this win goes to the players, who had a great game and overcame a lot of things
“The team showed solidarity, we were aggressive in attack and we played with a lot of personality, whereas Celta tested the referee’s limits.
“The players in the middle, those who came in, Lucas, who finished on the left… they all did what the shirt asked of them.
“We won balls in our opponents’ half and applied good pressure. Every Coach wants their team to show everything; going forward, patience, looking for breaks… but our character is what I liked most.
“The win came because everyone showed great character to overcome the many things that happened.
“Benzema was great, He put together some great play for our first goal, but he had a complete match. He worked hard, created space, linked up well…
“We have Isco, but the match went as it did and we couldn’t make any other substitutions.”
