Inter ‘not aware of Real Madrid interest’ in Mauro Icardi – Javier Zanetti

Inter are ‘not aware’ of interest in their star striker and captain Mauro Icardi from Real Madrid, according to vice-president Javier Zanetti.

The Argentine star is said to have a €110m release clause at the Milanese giants and has been linked to the European champions, who are keen to bolster their attacking ranks.

“Icardi is very happy at Inter and we are not aware of any interest of Real Madrid,” Zanetti told an interview with Marca.

“We know the situation of our own club, we are under no pressure to sell and Mauro is our star player and our focal point in attack.”

The Nerazzurri host Madrid’s rivals Barcelona in their Champions League group game on Tuesday night.

“I expect a very difficult game, they have quality throughout the side but Inter have everything to aim for a win,” added Zanetti.

“I don’t think we’ll see a very different Barça [from the first game], they’ll go out and do the same because they never change their philosophy.

“They’ll want to control the game and we’ll need to counteract that.

“We started well at Camp Nou, but Barcelona made the most of their possession and scored at the right time. They went into the break 1-0 up and that was important.

“Lionel Messi? It’s a pleasure to watch him play, but I hope he stays on the bench for a bit… I know him a little though, and he’ll be desperate to get on the pitch.”
