La Liga petition for Girona v Barcelona in United States

La Liga North America have started a petition to try and collect signatures for Girona’s match with Barcelona to be played in Miami.

The league are trying to ensure the clash, scheduled for Girona’s Estadi Montilivi (pictured) in January, will be the first league match to be played abroad, with Miami’s Hard Rock stadium the desired venue.

The #BringUStheGame motion believe there have been false claims about the match, which La Liga want to be part of their 15-year deal with American entertainment company Relevent.

FIFA and the Spanish FA have formally opposed the proposal while the AFE players union have also stated they are firmly against the move.

“Imagine watching Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho, Cristhian Stuani, Portu and others competing right here at home,” reads the petition.

“A real league match, with points on the line.

“There's only one problem. Some of the key decision-makers are falsely claiming it won't be good for the game in the US.

“So we, the fans, need to fight for this match by telling them. The more support we have, the harder we'll be to ignore.”
