Stefan Savic happy to return after a ‘bad time’

Stefan Savic admitted his lengthy absence from a calf injury was a ‘bad time’ for him but is happy to return with an Atletico Madrid clean sheet.

The former Manchester City and Fiorentina defender was missed over six weeks of action but returned for Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad.

“It was important for us to keep a clean sheet,” Savic told reporters, as cited by Marca.

“We knew after the defeat in Germany (4-0 at Borussia Dortmund) we needed to show we could bounce back and show our resilience.

“I was out for six weeks and that was a bad time for me, but now I feel much better and I am playing well, I feel good.

“It was important for defenders to score because that is the reputation at this club, we are proud of having goals come from across our team.

“We are not concerned at Diego Costa’s lack of goals, his whole career is built on finding the net and leading the line, he fights for everything, he is very important.”
