La Liga Week 10 round-up: Daniele Verde belter denies Espanyol

Levante marched on to their fourth straight win in La Liga Week 10, but Daniele Verde’s belter denied Espanyol from going top.

Friday’s clash at Cornella-El Prat involved two of La Liga’s most in-form sides, with Espanyol winning three of their last four games and Real Valladolid taking maximum points over he same period.

Record signing Borja Iglesias scored his third goal in two matches to let the Catalans lead, but Daniele Verde’s injury-time free kick swerved past Diego Lopez to salvage the hosts a 1-1 draw, as well as draw praise from owner and Brazil icon Ronaldo.

Girona ended a run of six games without a win after they beat Rayo Vallecano 2-1 on Saturday.

Portu stepped up to the plate in Cristhian Stuani’s absence, bagging a brace to cancel out a consolation effort from Alex Galvez, although Girona lost Anthony Lozano to a late red card.

Celta Vigo halted a similar streak of results, battering Eibar 4-0 courtesy of Iago Aspas’ hat-trick.

Celta boss Antonio Mohamed was feeling the heat, amidst mounting supporter unrest, but Aspas came to the rescue with a treble, sandwiched by a Brais Mendez goal.

Finally, Levante followed up their famous win at Real Madrid last weekend by triumphing 2-0 over struggling Leganes.

Roger Marti broke the deadlock with his sixth goal of the campaign, before Barcelona youth product Ruben Rochina ensured the Valencians extended their run of victories to four.
