Marcelino’s warning for Valencia after Young Boys draw

Marcelino warned Valencia ‘it’s impossible to win by playing like we did’ during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Young Boys in the Champions League.

Valencia took the lead against Young Boys, courtesy of Michy Batshuayi’s opener, but Los Che ultimately fell to their ninth draw of the season after Guillaume Hoarau equalised from the penalty spot.

“I’m struggling to find an explanation,” said the Coach after the game, which also left his side with only one competitive win to their name in 2018-19.

“We had everything in our favour. We had a great first half and had enough chances to kill the game off.

“Everything followed the path we wanted to be on, but we went wrong in the second half and it led to insecurities, which meant we lost the ball easily.

“The penalty came from a lack of concentration and that gave our opponent more wind in their sails.

“They could’ve won the game and if they did, we could have no complaints. Many things failed in the second half.

“Our organisation, defensive work, collective work, attack… Our opponents bettered us and it’s impossible to win by playing like we did.

“I was struck by the big change between the first and second half. We faded and doubts set in. The need to win made us lose our shape.”
