Diego Maradona has claimed his comments about Lionel Messi needing ‘the bathroom 20 times before a game’ have been misinterpreted.
The Argentine legend, who is currently coaching Mexican side Dorados de Sinaloa, believes the media have tried to alter the context of his words ‘to put me in confrontation with Messi’.
“I know Leo is the best in the world,” Maradona told reporters, as cited by ESPN FC.
“If 20 players go to the bathroom before a game, that is what they do, but I never mentioned Lionel Messi.
“What happens is that people want to put me in confrontation with Messi and they can't. They can't.
“The friendship I have with Lionel is much bigger than what all of you (in the media) can write. I'm saying Messi is the best in the world.”
