Santiago Solari ‘first choice’ for Real Madrid job

Real Madrid Castilla boss Santiago Solari (pictured left) is the leading candidate to replace Julen Lopetegui as first-team Coach at the club, reports Marca.

The influential Madrid-based daily report the Argentine as the ‘number one candidate’ and his status within the club would be sufficient to ensure his appointment was a swift and cost-effective one.

The 42-year-old spent five years at Los Blancos as a player between 2000 and 2005 after joining from Atletico Madrid, while he also enjoyed playing stints at River Plate, Inter and San Lorenzo.

He replaced previous Castilla boss Zinedine Zidane in the hotseat in January 2016 when the Frenchman was hired in January 2016 to replace Rafael Benitez.

Marca claims that Antonio Conte and Roberto Martinez, the Belgium Coach, are other options being considered by Madrid but neither are the prime target.
