Vicente Calderon to be demolished in December

Plans have been drawn up to demolish and urbanise Atletico Madrid’s old Vicente Calderon stadium by December, say reports.

Diario AS say the old stands and infrastructure will be demolished by the end of the year with some of the structures already removed as operations have gradually been moved out.

In July, Cadena Cope reported the total cost of the project will stand at €42.2m and will last a total of two years and ten months.

The area alongside the Manzanares River will become populated with houses and green spaces in what is promised to be a ‘modern living space’.

The Vicente Calderon was home to Los Rojiblancos for 51 seasons from 1966 to 2017 before the club’s move to the Wanda Metropolitano last season.
