Marcos Alonso commits to new Chelsea contract

Marcos Alonso is confident of signing a new long-term deal at Chelsea ‘in the coming days’ despite speculation of a move to Real Madrid.

The left-back is excelling at Stamford Bridge and has now established himself in the Spanish national squad with his fine form being rewarded.

“I will renew this month, probably in the next few days,” Alonso told an interview with Diario AS.

“At Chelsea I am happy and relaxed, while the club have offered me a deal with two years remaining on my current one so they must be happy with me too!

“I’m enjoying my role this season and the system under (Chelsea boss Maurizio) Sarri is very similar to that of Luis Enrique, so it helps me.

“They are both excellent Coaches who focus a lot on tactics and positioning, so you are always learning and improving in that aspect.

“My natural position is a left-back in a defensive back four but under the previous boss (Antonio Conte at Chelsea) I was a wing-back, but you adapt.

“I am driven to maintain my level of performance and continue to impress those who select me, while good results always help.”
