Julen Lopetegui: ‘Perspective’ needed for Real Madrid form

Julen Lopetegui maintains ‘perspective’ is needed for Real Madrid’s form after their 1-0 defeat to Alaves as ‘we’re only three points off the top’ in La Liga.

“We had a lot of bad luck,” the Coach said after the game.

“We need to get some very important players back, plus we had the bad luck of injuries to Benzema and Bale.

“It’s a tough spell for us and the person responsible is always the Coach, more so than the players. I’m clear on that.

“We know it’s not a good spell for us, but in the worst case scenario we’re only three points off the top in October, and in bad situations you need to have a bit of perspective.

“It’s true that we have to get players back and that peace of mind, which will allow us to start winning again.

“You always expect the best from your players and I have no doubt that they’re giving everything.

“When you don’t score or win matches and you then start a game and not take your chances, the situation becomes more complex.

“We have to get players and our freshness back, learn from our mistakes and get our peace of mind back.

“We started the game well but weren’t able to score. The situation we’ve been struggling with weighed us down.

“I think Alaves taking all three points with the last kick of the game was excessive, given how the match panned out, although it’s true we played worse in the second half than in the first.”
